This project will provide  innovative AI-simulated Spoken Cantonese learning experiences for Ethnic Minority children and youth via a mobile application.

Social Problem

  • Ethnic Minorities living in Hong Kong are lacking motivation to learn Cantonese and interesting learning resources, and thus are isolated due to language barrier
  • The employment rate of Ethnic Minorities living in Hong Kong are observed to be lower than that of the Locals as they do not speak fluent Cantonese

Social Innovation

  • The project develops a mobile based application that specializes in enhancing EM users’ spoken Cantonese and vocabulary
  • The Application also features AI-stimulated conversation, allowing EM users to learn outside classroom

Expected Social Impact

  • Develop an AI-simulate Cantonese daily conversation training tool
  • Benefit 600 students of diverse race benefit from the tool during Cantonese Learning Events
  • Conduct 40 Cantonese Learning Events for 600 EM kids
  • Conduct 10 Focus Group Discussions for 50 ethnic minority parents
  • Train 30 tertiary students of diverse race as CanTone Ambassadors to implement the project
  • Train 30 secondary students of diverse race as CanTone Volunteers to assist workshop delivery
