Carer Together – Sports Teams Training Project

This project adopts team sports as the intervention to support senior female caregivers in developing a regular exercise routine and fostering a caregiver-friendly sports community.

Beneficiaries:
Service Types:

Social Problem

  • Golden-age women are more likely to suffer from mental health problems. On the one hand, they face the uneasiness that may occur during menopause, as well as the stress and emotional distress caused by physiological changes.
  • Golden-age female caregivers aged 50-64 experience changes in their caregiving status as their children grow up and are prone to feelings of loss and physical and mental discomfort, which increases the risk of mental health diseases.

Social Innovation

  • In addition to meeting their psychological needs for social interaction through different activities, it also directly improves their physical health and brings the effect of preventing elderly diseases. It is expected to reduce their medical expenses in the long run.
  • This project also has a community intervention aspect. By discovering and connecting idle spaces in the community, and making good use of those spaces, a prototype of a caregiver-friendly community can be developed.

Expected Social Impact

  • 92 senior female caregivers will benefit from 8 team sports experiential classes, 160 regular team sports training sessions, and 4 sessions of sports teams’ gathering
  • 6 participants who joined the regular sports training sessions will join the sports coach assistant training courses
  • Open up 3 unused private areas and community spaces for 9 times for participants to regular exercises, and aim to reach 72 caregivers and care receivers
