  • Less than 1% of Hong Kong’s population benefits from existing aging-in-place services, despite over 5.25% of community-living elderly requiring long-term care, highlighting a critical gap in support for independent living.
  • Less than 10% of elderly access home assessment and improvement services, leaving most vulnerable to home injuries that are often addressed only after accidents occur.
  • Elderly with limited financial means and knowledge struggle to access resources for home environment upgrades, increasing their risk of debilitating injuries.
  • Elderly living alone or in pairs often lack social connections and timely assistance, exacerbating risks from rapidly deteriorating health conditions in later life.

Social Innovation

  • Prototyping of elderly-friendly furniture integrating occupational therapy features is developed as a scalable solution for addressing the needs of the elderly while maintaining the quality of elderly-centric design.

  • Technology-Enabled Design Solutions: Incorporates instant visualized 3D virtual tours, streamlining design processes by 2–3 months and reducing costs to make solutions accessible to low-income elderly.
  • Innovative Safety and Tele-Healthcare: Offers a home safety management service with IoT-based safety detectors and automatic alerts, providing long-term care solutions that support caregivers and enable future tele-healthcare development.
  • Outcome-Based Financing (OBF): Utilizes OBF to engage philanthropists, enhancing accessibility to high-quality home improvement services for elderly in poverty, surpassing the limitations of traditional funding models.
