Address the social issues faced by persons with Down Syndrome (PwDS) in Hong Kong, particularly in the areas of employment and social inclusion.

Beneficiaries:
Service Types:

Social Problem

  • Employment Challenges : The employment participation rate for people with disabilities in Hong Kong is also significantly lower 17.6% vs around 59% compared to normal people
  • PwDS misconceptions: The understanding of Down Syndrome is still lacking, and it remains unclear to the government, the public and the employers how to classify and address these needs. This may lead to a lack of specialized support in terms of allocating social and vocational resources to integrate these individuals into the society, hence resulting in the social exclusion of PwDS.

Social Innovation

  • Collaborates with the corporate sector, leveraging its extensive network to facilitate job placements for PwDS in diverse external organizations
  • Establish a buddy/mentor system within businesses to create an inclusive and nurturing environment for everyone involved
  • Discuss with employers about job roles, engagement needs with the beneficiaries and their families. We also address any salary limits or work-related concerns and ensure that partners have strong support systems

Expected Social Impact

  • A total of 4 large events and 8 small-medium events during the 2-year project cycle will be organized
  • Offer 648 sessions of work opportunities (of 4 hours per session) which totals to at least 2,592 working hours for 108 beneficiaries
  • A total of 108 beneficiaries will be recruited over the 2-year cycle through our beneficiary partners, with 27 beneficiaries in each cohort, lasting for 6 months
  • 48 beneficiaries from Group A will participate in 24 sessions of vocational and career training workshops
