Service Types:

Social Problem

  • Ethnic minorities in Hong Kong encounter significant hurdles in managing their personal finances, leading to disproportionately high generational poverty rates and social exclusion
  • According to research conducted by the Investor Education Centre in 2015, only 0.6% of the 661 financial education initiatives conducted between 2011 and 2015 were intended for the ethnic minority population.
  • The 2016 census revealed that 19.4% of EMs were living below the poverty line, a figure that, even after the provision of government subsidies, remains significantly higher than the poverty rate among the general population

Social Innovation

  • Offers a series of financial literacy courses designed for ethnic minorities, delivered in English, contextualized for ethnic minorities’ cultural distinctions and tailored for Hong Kong’s unique financial environment
  • Trains selected ethnic minorities ambassadors to co-host workshops, empowering community members to lead within their own community
  • An innovative online learning platform that provides self-paced financial education accessible beyond the classroom

Expected Social Impact

  • 70% of participants to improve their financial wellbeing
  • 80% of the ambassadors increase their skills in workshop facilitation and confidence in public speaking
