Will to fly – Mentoring Programme

The project addresses the talent shortage in the aviation industry and the lack of professional training resources for grassroots youth while enhancing their understanding of the field, while raising awareness of the industry and nurturing the future workforce.

Beneficiaries:
Service Types:

Social Problem

  • The 2020 Poverty Youth Report indicated that 12.5% of young people aged 18 to 24 are unemployed, of which only 24.3% are engaged in higher-skilled occupations
  • There is a severe shortage of specialized equipment and relevant flight simulation training experience among instructors required for aerospace programs, resulting in high course fees that are difficult to be afforded by grassroots youth families for expensive flight simulation and aerospace STEM courses
  • 60% of secondary school students feel uncertain about their future and lack life planning; grassroots youth are even lacking in guidance and opportunities for upward mobility indicated in the 2025 survey
  • The manpower shortage in Hong Kong's aviation industry is expected to rise to 18,000 to 23,000 people by 2028

Social Innovation

  • Professional flight simulation and aerospace STEM training courses are provided, integrating innovative technology and simulator instruction, allowing grassroots youth to engage with and master the latest aviation and aerospace technologies as well as flight simulation skills
  • Different pathways for further education and employment are explored by youth through career planning workshops and visits to aviation industry organizations
  • Training and internships for the “Mentor” program are provided, allowing trained youth to assist in organizing aerospace workshops and aviation activity days

Expected Social Impact

  • 50 grassroots youth participate in a 12‑hour professional simulated flight and aerospace STEM training course
  • 50 grassroots youth take part in a 3‑hour outreach workplace exploration
  • 20 youth who complete the training and perform well will be arranged for internships at centers or schools
